Punjab Announces Massive Increase in Arms License Fee
The caretaker cabinet in Punjab has officially approved a cost hike of up to 2000% for both individual and business licences to own firearms.
The most dramatic increase in the cost of an arms licence in any province in the nation has just occurred.
The provincial cabinet-approved changes to Schedule One of the Punjab Arms Rules 2023 will have a significant impact on those looking to obtain or renew a license to possess a weapon for hunting or personal protection.

The charge for new applicants, which was previously fixed at Rs. 10,000, will now be Rs. 50,000, while the renewal fee for current licence holders would increase from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000.
The growth extends beyond solitary licences.
The cost to obtain a “All Pakistan” licence from the Punjab Interior Department has increased by a startling 2,000 percent, from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 100,000.
Private institutions and security firms will also incur a large fee increase as a result of the increase in their fees from Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 50,000.
The price to obtain a duplicate arms licence has increased from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000.

Additionally, the processing fee for NADRA arms licences has increased from Rs. 1,400 to Rs. 2,000.
The Punjab Interior Department, in partnership with NADRA, is about to start accepting online applications for licences to possess weapons in an effort to speed up the application process.

To use this service, applicants must now pay a registration fee of Rs. 1,200.
The caretaker government has also authorized significant fee increases for arms dealers, producers, gunsmiths, and businesses, ranging from 500% to 2000%. For example, the cost of a new licence to sell weaponry has increased from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 2 million.
