The Punjab government has officially declared summer vacations for all public and private schools and colleges across the province. According to the notification issued by Punjab Secretary Schools Education, Khalid Nazir Wattoo, the holidays will commence on June 1 and will continue until August 9, 2025.
This announcement comes amid rising concerns over the intensifying heatwave conditions affecting the region. Wattoo highlighted that the decision has been taken to safeguard the health and well-being of students and staff. He also indicated that if the temperature continues to rise in the coming days, the vacation schedule may be moved up by a week. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to respond accordingly.

The Schools Education Department has confirmed that all necessary preparations for the summer break have been completed. Institutions have been instructed to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students until schools officially close. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also issued a set of precautionary guidelines to be implemented by educational institutions. These include enhancing classroom ventilation, verifying the functionality of fans and cooling systems, and establishing first-aid stations manned by personnel trained in managing heat-related incidents.
This move aligns with broader concerns voiced by climate experts, who warn that climate change and extended periods of extreme heat are increasingly disrupting educational activities, impacting student health, and affecting overall economic productivity. The Punjab government’s decision aims to mitigate these challenges while prioritizing the safety of the education community.
