The Punjab administration has also prohibited washing automobiles within homes using water pipes, where violators will face a penalty of Rs. 10,000 for water wastage. The move is taken keeping in view that rainfall is on the decline within the province.
Implemented under the Punjab Environmental Act, Lahore High Court directions order prohibition. Punjab is said to have experienced its rainfall fall by 42 percent over the past five years, making water conservation important.

To further curb water wastage, unauthorized washing stations have been shut by officials. Service stations and fuel stations that do not have water recycling facilities have been ordered to install one by February 28, 2025, or pay a penalty of Rs. 100,000.
The Environmental Protection Agency is also tasked with enforcing compliance with these regulations. The washing of cars using oil has also been outlawed by the administration, along with groundwater extraction on construction sites being restricted.
The Lahore High Court has lauded Punjab’s move to fight pollution and ensure environmental protection. The measures have been directed to be implemented rigorously by officials to control water wastage and ensure judicious use of water throughout the province.
