Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled the ‘Aghosh’ program, a groundbreaking initiative designed to provide financial aid to pregnant women and mothers of children under two years old. This first-of-its-kind program will offer PKR 23,000 in support, ensuring improved maternal and child healthcare across Punjab.
Financial Assistance for Pregnant Women and Newborns
The Punjab government has announced a structured financial assistance plan under the Aghosh program, providing monetary support at various stages of pregnancy and early childhood.

Here’s how the financial aid is distributed:
- PKR 2,000 – Upon first registration of pregnancy at a health center or Maryam Health Clinic
- PKR 1,500 per check-up – Up to PKR 6,000 for prenatal health check-ups until childbirth
- PKR 4,000 – Financial support for delivery at a registered health center
- PKR 2,000 – Incentive for the baby’s first medical check-up within 15 days of birth
- PKR 5,000 – For registering the child’s birth certificate at a health center
- PKR 4,000 – To ensure the child receives all necessary vaccinations (PKR 2,000 per visit)
Phase 1: Implementation in 13 Districts
The first phase of the Aghosh initiative will be launched in 13 districts across Punjab, including:
Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Khushab, and Lodhran.
Government’s Commitment to Maternal and Child Healthcare
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the Punjab government’s commitment to improving healthcare access for mothers and newborns, especially in underprivileged areas.
“It is heartbreaking to see mothers and children suffering in hospitals. Public resources belong to those who need them the most, especially in remote regions. A healthy mother ensures a healthy family,” she stated.
Additionally, a dedicated toll-free helpline has been launched to guide and assist pregnant women regarding maternal healthcare services.
