Punjab has further expanded its green public transport initiative with the launch of electric bus services in Bahawalpur under the provincial government’s Transport Vision 2030. The project has been introduced under the leadership of Maryam Nawaz and aims to provide affordable, environmentally friendly, and reliable public transport to residents of the city.

The newly launched electric bus service will operate on several key routes to improve connectivity across Bahawalpur, including Dera Bakha to 13 Solang, Talha Town to Bhatta No. 1 and Alina Hospital, Lodhran Entrance Gate to Cattle Market, and Al-Raheem Town to Goth Lashkar. These routes are expected to make daily commuting easier and more efficient for a large number of residents.

According to the official announcement, students and senior citizens will be able to travel free of charge on the electric buses. This measure is aimed at reducing the financial burden of transportation on families while encouraging greater use of public transport.

The rollout in Bahawalpur is part of a wider provincial plan to extend electric bus services beyond Lahore. The Punjab government has already prepared or delivered electric bus fleets to several other districts, including Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujar Khan, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, and Rajanpur.

Officials say the initiative is designed to reduce air pollution, cut fuel costs, and modernise urban transport systems across the province. With Bahawalpur now joining the network, Punjab’s transition toward clean and sustainable public transportation continues to gain momentum.
