Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced that students enrolled in private educational institutions across Punjab will now also benefit from the government’s free laptop scheme, marking a major expansion of the program.

Under the initiative, 10,000 laptops will be distributed to deserving students from the private sector, extending support beyond public institutions and promoting equal access to digital learning tools. The minister said the move reflects the government’s commitment to supporting students across all education systems.

While sharing updates on the education department’s performance, Rana Sikandar Hayat declared 2025 as the year of initiatives for Punjab’s education sector. He said several reforms have already been implemented to improve transparency, quality, and efficiency.

One of the most significant steps was the removal of nearly two million ghost enrollments, ensuring that government resources are now directed toward genuine students. He also highlighted the rationalisation of around 26,000 teachers to improve staff placement based on actual school requirements.

The minister said reforms have been introduced in the syllabus and examination systems, along with the launch of e-marking to make assessments more transparent and fair. He added that Early Childhood Education rooms have been established in 10,000 schools across the province, improving learning environments for younger students.

Through a linked nutrition program, around 1.1 million children are now receiving additional support to promote healthy growth and better learning outcomes. In addition, 268 schools have been upgraded to improve infrastructure and facilities.

Rana Sikandar Hayat also said strict action has been taken on harassment complaints in educational institutions to ensure a safe and secure environment for students and staff. He further shared that merit-based appointments of principals and vice chancellors have been completed, aimed at strengthening leadership and raising overall education standards in Punjab.
