Punjab Govt Offers Merit-Scholarships to Minority Students

A scholarship scheme for meritorious non-Muslim students is being offered by the Punjabi government.

The scholarship program will give regular students the tools they need to succeed academically and make a meaningful impact on society. By 12 May 2023, interested candidates can submit their applications.

To be eligible, applicants must reside in Punjab, be a member of a minority community—such as a Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, or other—be enrolled in a program at the matriculation through doctoral levels, and have received at least 40% in their most recent annual examination.

If the chosen candidates are enrolled in graduate-level programs like the MBBS, DVM, BDS, BSc (English), BSc (Nursing), Pharm-D, Ph.D., or an equivalent, they will receive annual scholarships worth Rs. 50,000.

The annual salary for postgraduate students enrolled in MA, MSc, M.Com, MCS/MBA, M Phil, LLM, or programs of equal standing is Rs. 35,000. Undergraduates enrolled in BA, BSc, BBA, B.com, or programs of equal standing will receive Rs. 30,000 annually.

The application forms are available at the Section Officer’s office or online at the Punjab Department of Human Rights and Minority Affairs website.

The following documents must be submitted by applicants: certified copies of their birth certificate, passport-size photos, Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC), father or guardian identification cards, and educational credentials attested by a Grade 17 officer or higher. The scholarship advertisement in different newspapers on photocopies is also acceptable.

The leaders of the educational institutions where the applicants are presently enrolled have also been directed to confirm the legitimacy of the parent or guardian’s documentation. A certificate of attestation should be requested from the leader of each institution’s affiliated religion.

All qualified non-Muslim students enrolled at Punjabi government institutions are encouraged to apply as soon as possible because the deadline is quickly approaching.
