The Punjab government has announced that buses and rickshaws will operate free of charge in Lahore from February 6 to February 8 to facilitate the public during the Basant festival.

According to official details released on Friday, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said free public transport would be provided for three days. She explained that the decision was taken to discourage motorcycle use and help reduce traffic accidents during the festivities.

Meanwhile, Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said manufacturing of kites and kite strings would be allowed from December 30. She added that instructions had been issued to form a sub-committee by January 5 to prepare and present a comprehensive plan related to kite flying regulations.

Earlier this month, the Punjab government decided to celebrate the Basant festival in Lahore on February 6, 7, and 8.

Sources said a meeting was held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Marriyum Aurangzeb, during which it was decided that strict compliance with the law would be ensured during Basant celebrations. The meeting also decided that safety rods would be installed on all motorcycles, while fireworks would be arranged only at designated locations across the city.
