The Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has started issuing Punjab registration numbers to vehicles and motorcycles that were previously registered in other provinces, including those operating within the Rawalpindi Division.
Under a newly introduced Standard Operating Procedure, the Rawalpindi office began accepting fresh re-registration applications from February 14. The process now requires mandatory biometric verification of applicants.
Vehicles of all categories and engine capacities that were originally registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir can now be re-registered in Punjab. However, applicants must first obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the excise office of the province where the vehicle was initially registered.
In addition, vehicle owners are required to provide a clearance certificate, a Police 15 report, the complete vehicle file, and an affidavit. Officials confirmed that the registration fee will be charged according to the prevailing Punjab rates.
Once the procedure is completed, a new Punjab registration number specific to the relevant city will be issued, and the previous registration number will be cancelled. The excise department of the original province will also be formally informed about the new registration details.
