Qatar’s Prime Minister has called for a unified regional response after an Israeli strike on Doha killed at least seven people, warning that the entire Gulf is now at risk.
Speaking on Wednesday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said Arab states are in consultation over next steps. “There will be a response from the region. Discussions with our partners are already underway,” he noted, accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of dragging the Middle East into “chaos.”
Regional Pushback
Arab leaders quickly traveled to Doha in a show of solidarity. According to Al Jazeera, Gulf states are preparing legal measures to pursue Netanyahu for alleged breaches of international law, with a regional summit expected in Qatar soon.
The strike, condemned widely at home and abroad, has intensified fears of instability across the Gulf.
The Attack
On Tuesday, Israeli forces struck a meeting of Hamas officials in the Qatari capital, where discussions were being held over a U.S.-brokered ceasefire proposal. Hamas confirmed its leadership survived, but said the strike was an assassination attempt.
Among the seven dead were two Qatari security officers.
Gaza Toll Rises
The assault comes as Israel steps up its offensive in Gaza, where at least 72 Palestinians were killed on Wednesday alone. Human rights groups continue to accuse Israel of genocide, with more than 64,650 Palestinians reported dead since October 2023.
Sheikh Mohammed warned the Doha strike was intended to sabotage “any chance of peace” in Gaza. “The meeting’s details were fully known to the Israelis and the Americans. We had nothing to hide,” he stressed.
