Wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul will captain the Indian cricket team in the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against South Africa, starting next Sunday, as regular captain Shubman Gill remains out with a neck injury.

Gill sustained the injury while batting in the first Test in Kolkata earlier this month and was ruled out of the ongoing second Test, with Rishabh Pant stepping in as captain. Pant, also a wicketkeeper-batter, has been named in the ODI squad and could play his first match in the format since August 2024.

Ruturaj Gaikwad returns to the squad after scoring a century and a half-century for India A earlier this month; he has not played an ODI since December 2023.

The three ODIs will take place from November 30 to December 6, followed by a five-match T20 series between India and South Africa.

India Squad: KL Rahul (C), Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Dhruv Jurel
