The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rain and snowfall in several cities, offering much-needed relief to drought-affected areas of Balochistan.
According to the PMD, strong westerly winds are expected to enter Balochistan between December 6 and 10, marking the start of the first significant and prolonged spell of rain. Showers are predicted to continue intermittently throughout the month.
The weather department said this rainfall is likely to improve conditions in major drought-hit districts, including Zhob, Sherani, Musakhel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibi, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, Gwadar, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Qilla Saifullah, Chagai, Nushki, Washuk, and Mastung. Some areas may experience heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder, while northern and higher-altitude regions could see snowfall.
Experts noted that north-western winds have been more active than usual this year, and moisture from the Arabian Sea continues to move toward Balochistan. These factors, they said, are likely to produce a prolonged spell of rain, contributing to a positive rise in groundwater levels and dam reservoirs.
