Rawalpindi declares local holidays on April 9 and 10 amid security measures
The Rawalpindi administration has announced local holidays across the district on April 9 and 10, 2026, as part of wider security arrangements in the twin cities.
According to a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s office on April 8, the holidays will apply throughout the entire Rawalpindi district.
The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema under powers delegated by the Punjab government. However, all emergency services, institutions, and essential departments will remain operational during this period.
This move follows similar restrictions in Islamabad, where authorities have also announced local holidays, closed educational institutions, restricted heavy vehicle entry, and shut several hiking trails.
Together, these measures indicate heightened administrative and security preparations in both Rawalpindi and Islamabad ahead of expected high-level official engagements later this week.
The twin cities are reportedly preparing for sensitive diplomatic activity linked to the reported US-Iran ceasefire and possible follow-up talks in Pakistan, leading to increased security planning, movement restrictions, and temporary closures in key areas.
So far, no announcement has been made regarding any extension beyond April 10, but further decisions may depend on the evolving situation.
