The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) has assumed control of the Rs. 30 billion Rawalpindi Ring Road project, and construction work has officially begun even though two-thirds of the necessary land still needs to be obtained.
The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), which is low on money, has requested Rs. 4 billion from the interim Punjab government. Despite this financial restriction, Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha of the Rawalpindi Division expressed confidence that the monies will be secured soon.
The road project, which spans 38.3 kilometres, has only acquired land along the first 12 kilometres, from Chak Beli Khan to Adiala, leaving the remaining 26.3 kilometres open for acquisition.

The project’s director, Commissioner Chatha, disclosed that the interim chief minister Mohsin Naqvi’s order caused a major reduction in the completion timetable to six months. In terms of project finances, Rs. 6.7 billion from the previous year will be used for land acquisition, and further funding is being sought for development.
Land acquisition will start in accordance with Section 17(4) of the Land Acquisition Act, paying landowners market rates plus an additional 15%. Despite being declared necessary for the benefit of the public, this project is exempt from the limitations placed on new initiatives by the electoral commission.
With five interchanges, an industrial zone, and a total projected cost of Rs. 31.7 billion, the Rawalpindi Ring Road seeks to reduce traffic congestion and enhance mobility in the area. After overcoming political obstacles and obtaining third-party approval, this ambitious endeavor is still going strong.
