The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) and traffic police have been instructed to target smoke-emitting vehicles, particularly public transportation, in order to reduce smog in Rawalpindi.
An official update states that Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha issued the directives in response to the region’s increasing environmental pollution and haze.
Obtaining a fitness certificate from the Rawat Vehicle Inspection and Verification System (VICS) Center before driving is another piece of advice the commissioner gave to vehicle owners. Additionally, he ordered the environmental department to monitor brick kilns and guarantee the application of zigzag technology.

Key environmental officials, RDA representatives, RTA Secretary Rashid Ali, and Deputy Director of Agriculture Sadia Bano were present at the meeting. Delegates from the Goods Transport Association attended the meeting to discuss the environmental concern.
Chatha informed the gathering that truck stands being built in Losar and Sangjani are being watched. Along with the RTA secretary, RDA director, city traffic officer, and three representatives from law enforcement agencies, he established a committee.
According to RTA officials, 878 vehicles were inspected in the previous month, and 50 were confiscated and 608 fined. They said that fines for the smoke-emitting automobiles were more than Rs. 1.6 million.
Without a VICS fitness certificate, the commissioner instructed the RTA and traffic police to not release seized vehicles.
