Rawalpindi: The district administration and RDA have set this month as the deadline for finishing the Rawalpindi master plan. Still, the authorities have only been able to complete the first phase of the project, which is the land categorization map.
In the fifteen days that followed the District Planning and Design Committee’s approval of the land categorization plan for the Rawalpindi district, the administration decided to get input from all pertinent stakeholders.
On December 16, 2020, the project was authorized, and on December 24, 2020, a contractual agreement was signed, outlining funding of around Rs. 50 million spread over a year. As of September of this year, MMP was given an extra three months to finish the project.

Following the “finalization of the land classification map,” stakeholder input is requested.
The administrators approved the master plan’s development within each local government zone in Rawalpindi of the local governments in the interim.
Consequently, in Murree and Kotli Sattian, the creation of land use categorization plans was put on hold. “…only the master plans were submitted to the relevant administrators for approval, along with notification from the corresponding local government, for Gujar Khan, Kallar Syedan, Taxila, and Kahuta.”
It has been decided to include the pertinent stakeholders in creating the Rawalpindi master plan, according to a top district administration official.
He said the Committee for District Planning and Design has approved the Rawalpindi district land categorization map.
Built-up area, or settlement, is considered while creating the land categorization map. Following the notification, the consulting business will create a development plan for the Rawalpindi district that reflects the updated land classification (zoning) and considers the populace’s needs for the next 20 years.
He said the RDA will start building on an economic zone surrounding the Rawalpindi Ring Road when the master plan is finalized. The official stated that although the province government planned to establish an economic zone, the master plan would dictate where industrial units are located, and the administration would prevent company operations outside of these zones.
When Rawalpindi’s first master plan was developed in 1968, it was declared an interim federal capital. The plan was eventually abandoned as government departments relocated to Islamabad.
