Realignment of Rawalpindi Ring Road Deemed Nonviable
According to news sources, in view of the current suggestion to revive the existing route for the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) and forsake the new road project alignment, doubts have been raised over the profitability of the project.

A public official noted that the primary intent of the ring road project was to deflect high traffic flow away from the twin cities, but the previously intended path would defeat this objective. It was revealed that the old route is essentially a bypass and will allow loaded heavy vehicles to pass through the Islamabad Expressway/ I J Principal Road, as their axle weight will prevent them from utilising the ring road.
Since the Punjab government has already paid PKR 2.3 billion to landowners whose land has been required for RRR, it will be difficult to retrieve the payments if the allocation is cancelled.
Some landowners are prepared to compensate the government because they believe they were underpaid; however, smaller landowners (who have little chance of reselling the land at a higher price) are unable to do so.

Approximately 8,000 kanals of the total 16,000 kanals of land required for the RRR construction have been secured, and roughly 4,000 kanals have been paid for. The issue could result in legal complications that require years to address.
