Reconstituted Commission to Finalize Islamabad Master Plan
According to press sources, the reformed committee for the implementation and revision of the master plan of the capital city will convene to resolve issues with the city’s infrastructure and planning.

The commission will focus on Zone IV and Zone III issues in particular. The group was established by the federal government in 2018 to assess Islamabad’s Master Plan, which is required to be revised every two decades.
However, the design has remained unchanged since its initial conception in the 1960s. Since then, just 43 alterations have been made. The panel to analyze the master plan met for the last time in 2019, and a technical consulting firm was supposed to examine the process, but was unable to do so for a number of reasons.

According to people with knowledge of the situation, the reconstituted commission intends to hire a consultant as soon as possible and finish the revision within a year.
After a hiatus of 1.5 years, the three-member commission is convening under the leadership of Maj Gen (Retired) Farrakh Javed, architects Murad Jamali and Sikandar Ajam. Important policy guidelines will be established by the commission for the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
