Regulatory Authority Needed to Deal Threats Posed to Environment
Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz declared at a conference titled “Challenges and Strategies for Effective Plastic Management to Improve Human Health” in Islamabad that regulatory authority is required to solve environmental concerns, according to news outlets.

In partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Global Water Challenge, the Coco-Cola Foundation, and New World, Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) held the seminar.
The minister emphasized during the conference that environmental degradation is a worldwide issue that necessitates a collaborative response. He challenged scientists and college students to find ways to fight environmental issues and improve the nation’s socioeconomic standing.
During her speech at the conference, UNESCO Country Director Patricia McPhillips warned the attendees that plastic pollution poses the greatest threat to the environment and human health, necessitating a global effort to mitigate its impact. She continued by stating that global plastic production and consumption is increasing at an alarming rate.

The director stated that a public awareness campaign, as well as provincial and federal actions, are necessary for effective plastic trash management.
Dr. Rab Nawaz, senior director of programs for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Pakistan, underlined the need for a regulatory agency to regulate plastic production. Similarly, Prof. Shahid Mahmood Baig, Chairman of the Pakistan Scientific Foundation, emphasized the foundation’s involvement in research and science popularization activities.
