Restoration Team Discovers 400 Year Old Tunnel in Shahi Qila
During rehabilitation work on the Shahi Qila in Lahore, authorities stumbled upon a 400-year-old tunnel that had been lost for decades but was still in tact.

The old tunnel, which runs beneath various fortifications and is wide enough to be readily traversed, dates back thousands of years. It has lamp niches and is well-ventilated and lit. Authorities think it was once a covert drainage route.
Shahi Qila is a significant Mughal structure with hidden basements and a maze of passageways and tunnels.
Hafiz Umran, the spokesperson for the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), informed the media that Maktab Khana and Moti Masjid’s rehabilitation and reconstruction projects have uncovered remnants of the tunnel.
The WCLA claims that during the excavation process, they have also found ammunition, a royal kitchen, baths from the time of Emperor Jahangir, basements beneath the Black Bridge, and corridors. They are optimistic that they will find more artefacts if excavations are started in any other areas of the fort.
