KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken decisive steps to address Karachi’s traffic congestion by approving major infrastructure projects, including a Rs1 billion allocation for an underpass at Korangi Causeway and improvements to traffic flow near Sohrab Goth.
Presiding over a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister House on Friday, Shah reviewed the progress of key infrastructure initiatives, including the ongoing construction of the Korangi Causeway Bridge, additional works on Shahrah-e-Bhutto, and a strategic traffic management plan for Sohrab Goth — a major traffic choke point in the city.

Major Funding for Korangi Causeway and Roadway Improvements
In a bid to enhance connectivity and streamline vehicular movement from multiple directions, the Chief Minister sanctioned Rs 1 billion for the construction of a new underpass connecting Korangi Causeway and CBM Road. The proposed plan also includes the redesign of roadway geometry and the development of a centralised roundabout, which will be adapted to suit on-ground conditions.
Progress on Rs9.3 Billion Korangi Causeway Project
Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani provided a detailed briefing on the Rs9.3 billion Korangi Causeway project, revealing that construction is already in full swing. The scope includes not just the main bridge but also multiple associated loops and the critical 3000 Road Intersection in Korangi.
Flyover Near Sammo Goth Gets Green Light
CM Murad Ali Shah also granted technical clearance for a new flyover near Sammo Goth along with other connecting roads. He directed the Planning & Development (P&D) Department to finalize approvals within a week and begin construction without delay.
High-Level Attendees and Inter-Department Coordination
The review meeting was attended by senior provincial leaders and key officials including Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Nasir Hussain Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Special Assistant Qasim Naveed, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, and others from the local government, planning, and law enforcement sectors.
Orders for Access Road Enhancements and Roundabout Remodeling
The Chief Minister tasked the P&D and Local Government departments with crafting a comprehensive traffic solution. This includes remodeling the roundabout at Sohrab Goth and enhancing access roads from critical junctions such as Lyari Expressway, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan Chowrangi, and Gulshan-e-Mayor.
He instructed the departments to submit a complete design plan for final approval, reiterating the provincial government’s commitment to improving Karachi’s traffic infrastructure through fast-tracked, strategic development.
