The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved seven development projects worth Rs. 24.385 billion under the Uraan Pakistan initiative, aimed at boosting key sectors and supporting economic growth.
The projects span multiple areas, including education, health, governance, housing, and the environment. Together, they reflect the government’s broader plan to strengthen human development, improve infrastructure, modernize governance, and promote sustainable growth.
In the environment sector, a project to set up an air quality monitoring network in Sindh, valued at over Rs. 1.4 billion, received conditional approval.
In governance, a project worth nearly Rs. 2 billion to strengthen the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir was approved, with instructions to review and reduce ammunition costs. Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal highlighted its importance for improving security and tackling regional challenges.
Two education projects were also considered. The Daanish School project in Islamabad’s Kuri area, costing nearly Rs. 7 billion, was approved on the prime minister’s directions, but only for the girls’ hostel component. Another Daanish School project in Tando Muhammad Khan, Sindh, worth around Rs. 3.7 billion, was approved with directions to bring costs in line with similar projects.
In the health sector, the Sindh Health Support Program, valued at Rs. 2.27 billion, was approved. Most of the funding will come from the World Bank, with a smaller contribution from the Sindh government. Officials say the project highlights the government’s continued focus on improving healthcare.
Two more projects in housing and infrastructure were cleared, including the construction of a federal courts complex in Hayatabad, Peshawar, and a model prison in Islamabad.
Overall, these approvals are intended to improve public services, strengthen institutions, and support long-term economic development across the country.
