RUDA Appeal in SC for Restoration from Punjab Govt
Lahore: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has denied Ravi Urban Development Authority’s (RUDA) request to restore a provisional ruling. The Lahore High Court (LHC) rendered a final decision in this matter.

Sources indicate that the Punjab government’s appeal against the temporary order of the LHC regarding the suspension of RUDA has been consolidated into a single legal conclusion. The ultimate verdict for the appeals against the provisional order was negative.
RUDA’s attorney asked two weeks for LHC’s evaluation of the order. Regarding this appeal, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan stated that the LHC had rendered its decision and no amendments will be made. The Punjab government opposed the temporary LHC order that had halted RUDA’s operations. In spite of this, the LHC pronounced the Ravi Urban Development Project illegal yesterday.

The RUDA was confronted with the Land Acquisition Act, which is not part of the consultancies but is included in the constitution. The Punjab administration shall resolve the objections of the Supreme Court to this statute in accordance with the law. The court’s verdict did not state that the land transaction was void in its entirety. However, the court ruled that the method for announcing sections 4 and 5 of the law was improper. The supreme court has ordered the Punjab government and authority to repay a 5 billion rupee loan that might be contested in court.
