RUDA to Build 100,000 Low-Cost Houses Besides River Ravi
On Friday, Dr. James L. Wescoat, a landscape architect from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a group from LUMS met with Imran Amin, CEO of the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA).

Dr. Wescoat expressed interest in knowing more about RUDA, the largest riverbank development project in the world. He is an expert on environmental issues, water management, and architectural history.
Director of Hydrology Mohsin Atiq gave a thorough overview of the project’s hydrological, ecological, and environmental components. CEO Amin emphasised that the project’s goal is to build 100,000 low-cost homes using RUDA’s own CSR funds, with the company’s primary priority being to restore the environment and ecosystem.

He also discussed RUDA’s goals for implementing change in the areas of waste disposal, forest planting, and water purification. Dr. Wescoat asked about flood control, to which the CEO replied that RUDA’s long-term plan is flexible in order to take into account evolving legislation and scientific knowledge.
Dr. Wescoat provided his technological expertise and vision for the future. CEO Amin pledged to take all necessary measures to guarantee the project’s success and safeguard Lahore from ensuing water and environmental issues.
