RUDA Told to Explain Grounds for Forced Land Acquisition
In response to alleged violations of its stay orders regarding the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project, the Lahore High Court expressed its displeasure on Tuesday and demanded an explanation from the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) as to why the possession rights of the landowners in the project area were being infringed upon.

A petition filed on behalf of the small landowners and people impacted by the riverfront development project was being heard by Justice Shahid Karim.
The petitioners contested the strategy and approach used by RUDA to acquire land for the project.
They asserted that a police and order scenario generated on March 2, 2021 prevented the hearing for the objections to the land purchase from taking place.

In spite of these circumstances, they claimed, the RUDA land acquisition collector passed 18 awards totaling billions of rupees on the same day.
Attorney Sheraz Zaka filed the suit accusing the respondents of breaking the stay orders imposed by the court barring commencement of construction activities and acquisition of land for the riverside project.
