Rupees will be Used in Trade Between Pakistan and Afghanistan

Pakistan can trade with Afghanistan in rupees, thereby reducing its expanding current-account deficit.

Finance and Revenue Minister Shaukat Tarin told the Senate Permanent Finance Committee that trade with Afghanistan was now in a condition of rupee because the new administration wished to conserve its dollar reserves.

Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Business Forum Ahmad Jawad said that a positive effort was made to deal with rupees for Pakistani importers as well.

He said that the government must establish a task group comprised of officials of the Ministry of Trade, the State Bank of Pakistan, and the Pakistan Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry to compile a list of countries with whom Pakistan may consider conducting transactions in rupees (FPCCI).

In addition, the diplomatic connection with Afghanistan, which he said was currently more important, will be strengthened.
