Russia’s Foreign Minister has claimed that Russian air defence systems successfully stopped a large Ukrainian drone attack that allegedly targeted the residence of President Vladimir Putin.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Ukraine launched around 91 drones late on the night of December 29 in the Novgorod region. The minister said all drones were intercepted and destroyed before reaching their targets, adding that there was no damage to President Putin’s residence and that the security situation remained fully under control.
The Russian official warned that the alleged drone attack could affect Moscow’s future approach to negotiations with Ukraine, suggesting that such actions would be taken into account in diplomatic decisions.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin confirmed that President Vladimir Putin discussed the incident during a phone call with former US President Donald Trump. Putin reportedly briefed Trump about the claimed Ukrainian drone attack near his residence and reiterated Russia’s intention to continue working with the United States toward peace.
According to the Kremlin statement, Donald Trump expressed surprise over the reported incident and said the attack could influence US policy and its relationship with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Ukraine has not issued an official response to the Russian claims so far.
