SC for Removal of Encroachments From PECHS Nullah, Karachi
According to news reports, the Supreme Court (SC) has directed competent authorities to remove encroachments from the Pakistan Employees Cooperative Housing Society (PECHS) nullah in Karachi.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court also ordered the area’s green belt to be restored to its natural state. The court ruled that no structures are permitted within 20 feet of the nullah’s banks. It was also stated that if a portion of the nullah is obstructed, the entire drain will be clogged.
According to the attorney for Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), PECHS administration assigned the plots. In addition, the attorney stated that the stores had restricted the nullah, making it harder for officials to enlarge it.

In contrast, the attorney for PECHS stated that there are no constructions on the nullah and that KMC is deceptive.
The supreme court instructed the attorney to put in writing that no constructions will be permitted within 20 feet of the nullah. The court has ordered PECHS officials to remove encroachments on both sides of the nullah and restore the greenbelt.
