Soon, travellers will be able to enter nations including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) using a single, Schengen-style visa.
At the 40th meeting of GCC interior ministers in Oman, foreign media reported earlier today, GCC Secretary General Jassim Al Budaiwi revealed the plan, which is anticipated to launch in six countries around 2024/2025.
The initiative was commended by the Secretary-General, who described it as a “new achievement” and proof of the GCC leaders’ effective cooperation and guidance.
The single Gulf tourist visa is a project that will help to facilitate and streamline the movement of residents and tourists across the six GCC nations and will, surely, have a good [effect] on the tourism and economic sectors, according to Al Budaiwi, who spoke at the event.

The unified visa is a crucial part of the GCC 2030 tourism plan, according to UAE Minister of Economy Abdullah bin Touq. The plan seeks to increase the sector’s economic contribution by encouraging greater travel within the region and increasing hotel occupancy rates.
Significantly, it is anticipated that by 2030, there would be 128.7 million more tourists thanks to the increased visa requirements. This is a 137 percent growth over 2021, up from 39.8 million the previous year.
According to industry insiders, the new initiative will completely transform the GCC nexus. The region has a mostly unexplored tourism market because many travelers are turned off by difficult-to-get visas that make travel miserable.
The CEO of Dubai Airports, Paul Griffiths, stated to The National in Abu Dhabi that the new tourism visa program will greatly benefit the area by increasing its attractiveness to tourists and businesses. The world’s perception of the Middle East will improve, he said, if more people are encouraged to travel there.
The single GCC tourist visa is a component of the GCC’s long-term plan to boost hotel stays and intercity travel across the Gulf region, hence boosting the GDP contribution of tourism.
Notably, tourism accounts for 14% of the UAE’s GDP, making it a major contributor to the country’s economy.
