A local court in Islamabad has stayed the arrest of Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in five cases, including those linked to the May 9 incidents, granting them interim relief until January 27.

The Islamabad District and Sessions Court ordered that arrests in all five cases remain stayed until the next hearing. The court also extended their pre-arrest bail, providing temporary legal protection while their bail applications are pending. Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka heard the matter.

During the hearing, arguments on the bail applications could not proceed due to the unavailability of the PTI founder, prompting the court to adjourn the proceedings.

The court directed Imran Khan to ensure his appearance at the next hearing, either in person or via video link. Consequently, the hearing on the bail applications was postponed until January 27.

Advocate Shamsa Kayani represented Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, requesting time because arguments could not be made without her client’s presence.

Imran Khan faces multiple cases, including those related to the May 9 violence, as well as allegations of attempted murder, submission of fake receipts, and other charges. A separate case against Bushra Bibi also involves allegations of submitting counterfeit receipts. With interim relief granted, both are required to comply with the court’s directions ahead of the next hearing.
