Severely Increased Food Prices Give Height to Inflation
Islamabad: According to data provided by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday, inflation as assessed by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) rose 0.08 percent for the week ending January 6 due to a substantial rise in the prices of key food and non-food goods. According to PBS data, SPI-based inflation rose after decreasing the week prior. In November, the greatest weekly inflation rate of 1.81 percent was recorded.

The SPI declined by 0.28 percentage points for individuals earning less than PKR 17,732 per month and climbed by 0.22 percentage points for those earning more than PKR 44,175 per month.
Potato prices rose by 5.23 percent, followed by chicken prices by 4.45 percent, bananas by 2.56 percent, onions by 2.12 percent, pulse masoor by 1.55 percent, pulse gram by 1.46 percent, and pulse mash by 1.44 percent. Diesel and salt increased in price by 2.75 percent, gasoline by 2.68 percent, and matchbooks by 1.45 percent.

Tomatoes 18.28pc, chili powder 14.54pc, eggs 2.23pc, LPG 0.96pc, rice Irri 0.17pc, wheat flour 0.06pc, and mustard oil 0.05pc were among the commodities whose prices decreased over the last week. During the week, the prices of 25 products climbed, seven items fell, and 19 items were unchanged.
