Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood has decided to continue his playing career until the end of the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, sources have disclosed.
Those familiar with the matter say Masood is likely to move into a consultant role within international cricket once the WTC concludes. Although he has already been offering informal input to the international department, he has not yet assumed any official administrative position.
Masood is expected to remain available for selection at least until Pakistan’s Test tour of England next year, scheduled from August 19 to September 9. The tour will feature a Test series and marks an important phase in Pakistan’s red-ball calendar.
In the meantime, former Pakistan fast bowler Aaqib Javed is handling the affairs of the international department on a temporary basis. He will continue in this role until the World Test Championship cycle comes to an end.
Aaqib’s responsibilities include issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players taking part in foreign leagues, overseeing the Pakistan Shaheens (A team), and managing administrative matters related to national team series.
The current setup is aimed at maintaining continuity in Pakistan’s on-field leadership as well as ensuring smooth management of international cricket operations during the remainder of the WTC cycle.
