Pakistan’s former fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar, has suggested a major shift in the national cricket team’s batting order. He believes Babar Azam should bat at No. 6 instead of his usual top-order position.

Akhtar shared this bold idea during a discussion on The Pavilion, where he analyzed Pakistan’s poor performance in the Champions Trophy alongside Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez.

Why Move Babar Azam to No. 6?

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s top batter, has faced a tough time in international cricket. He opened the innings due to Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman’s absence, but the strategy failed. This has led to growing criticism of his role in the team.

Akhtar suggested that both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan should move to the lower middle order, ideally batting at No. 5 or No. 6. However, former captain Mohammad Hafeez disagreed, stating that Babar plays best at the top and should not be pushed down.

Big Changes Coming for Pakistan Cricket?

Pakistan’s early exit from the Champions Trophy has sparked talks of major squad changes. While some senior players might be dropped, Akhtar believes Babar Azam should stay in the team but in a different role.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet commented on these possible changes. However, fans and analysts are debating whether Babar Azam will adjust to a new position or fight to keep his place at the top.

What’s Next for Babar Azam?

As Pakistan prepares for upcoming tournaments, the big question remains: Will Babar Azam move to the middle order or continue as an opener?
