KARACHI: The local government department has declared a broad restriction on the approval of various sorts of construction projects throughout the province, in a significant measure intended to stop the unbridled proliferation of buildings and commercial structures.
According to dependable sources, Mubin Jumani, the minister responsible for local government, provided the direction for the execution of this decision.
Concerned about Karachi’s rapid urbanisation, the minister referred to it as a “jungle of buildings.”
He gave the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) immediate instructions to deal with the problem of “illegal construction systems.”

This broad limitation on map approvals applies to all development authorities functioning under the local government department in addition to the SBCA.
The order also covers the Town Planning Department, Hyderabad Development Authority, Sehwan Development Authority, Malir Development Authority, Lyari Development Authority, and Karachi Development Authority (KDA).
This limitation also covers the approval of building designs and layouts in addition to the authorization of maps.
According to the sources, the ban’s application is limited to developing future regulations, and the provincial supervisory authority will shortly put in place a thorough framework for doing so.

The local government minister emphasised that organisations like the Water Board and KDA should concentrate all of their resources on offering public services and relief, highlighting the caretaker administration’s public-centric attitude.
Additionally, he instructed Syed Salahuddin, the chief executive officer of the KWSC, to take strict action against illegal hydrants in order to ensure a fair distribution of water among the populace.
