The Sindh government has decided to introduce a smart lockdown across the province to help conserve petrol amid rising fuel prices.

Government spokesperson Diwan Sukhdev Asardas said the lockdown will be different from those implemented during the COVID-19 period, as the aim is not to restrict social activity but to reduce fuel consumption.

He explained that the decision comes in response to rising global oil prices linked to ongoing tensions in Iran and other regions, which have increased pressure on fuel supplies.

Under the proposed plan, educational institutions may shift to online classes, while a work-from-home policy for both public and private offices is also being considered.

Authorities are also planning measures to reduce traffic on roads in order to lower petrol usage.

Essential services such as hospitals, police, and public transport will remain operational, and there will be no disruption in basic services.

The spokesperson said an official notification outlining the details of the smart lockdown is expected within the next 24 to 48 hours.
