The Government of Sindh has approved a Rs33.7 billion plan to introduce a new early-warning public alert system and purchase modern firefighting equipment and vehicles from China.
The project includes the procurement of 100 fire tenders, 35 water bowsers, special snorkel vehicles, 50 all-terrain fire vehicles, eight firefighting drones, and 12 multi-purpose drones. It also involves the launch of a technology-based early-warning system designed to quickly send alerts during natural disasters, health emergencies, and other critical situations.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s House, the project will be implemented over three fiscal years. It will cover equipment purchases, infrastructure development, and recruitment of necessary human resources.
The cabinet meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who approved a comprehensive upgrade of the province’s emergency response system. The initiative aims to modernize both the Provincial Disaster Management Authority and the Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122.
The cabinet also approved engaging the Chinese Consulate to source specialized equipment under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement.
To ensure effective implementation, the chief minister formed a high-level committee, including the provincial home minister, to oversee the restructuring of Sindh’s rescue services and improve coordination and response times during emergencies.
The meeting at the CM House was attended by provincial ministers, advisers, special assistants, the chief secretary, the chairman of planning and development, and other senior officials.
