Skardu to Have a New International Airport to Promote Tourism
According to media sources, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry declared that the government has chosen to build a new international airport in Skardu to encourage tourism.

According to the federal minister, Gilgit and Skardu’s existing airports are being upgraded to international standards. Further, he claimed that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has ordered that all airports be connected to tourism and be operational throughout the year.
Gilgit and Skardu are important tourism hubs in Gilgit-Baltistan; therefore, it is essential to have an all-weather international airport in order to attract foreign tourists. The domestic airport in Skardu presently has two asphalt runways, one measuring 8,740 feet and the other measuring 11,944 feet.

To promote tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has just begun operating national flights from Faisalabad, Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore to Skardu. Last month, PIA resumed its Safari Air flights to promote tourism.
