Authorities have issued a smog alert for Lahore and several other cities in Punjab, warning residents about dangerous air conditions expected today (Tuesday). The Smog Monitoring and Control Center has advised people to wear masks and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, as polluted winds from northern India are moving toward Pakistan.

High Smog Risk in Major Cities
Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad are facing a high risk of smog. Officials have urged residents to take precautions, especially during the early morning and evening hours when pollution levels peak. Winds blowing from Dharamshala, India, at around 5 km/h are carrying harmful pollutants toward Pakistan’s major cities.

Delhi’s Pollution Worsens the Situation
New Delhi’s air quality has reached alarming levels, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 821 — the highest in the world. Experts warn that these toxic winds are drifting into Pakistan, worsening air conditions in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala. The smog contains fine particulate matter (PM2.5), which can cause serious breathing and heart problems.

Smog Extends to Southern Punjab
The smog threat is also spreading beyond central Punjab. Authorities have warned that Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Multan may also face reduced visibility and poor air quality in the coming days due to the same weather pattern.
