SNGPL to Improve Connection Quota to Encounter Gas Demand
Islamabad: According to news reports, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) has petitioned the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to raise the connection quota to 1.2 million in order to reduce the backlog of connection applications.

More than 3.2 million applications for gas connections are still outstanding, which shows how much more gas is needed in the nation.
According to the sources, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have the highest demand for connections, and SNGPL has a quota of 500,000 connections per year, compared to the 800,000 applications it receives annually.
The source claims that during a recent meeting in Islamabad, various proposals for additional gas connections in parliamentarians’ districts were taken into consideration. The SNGPL representatives were given instructions to finish these plans as soon as feasible. The attendees of the aforementioned meeting were also made aware of the quantity of schemes, open applications, urgent cases, capacity, quotas, and other information.

The authorities are asking for an increase in the quota to meet the demands. Due to its importance, natural gas is also known as white gold. It was first discovered in the Sui region of Balochistan, hence the name Sui-gas in Pakistan.
To make up for the current shortage, the SNGPL has chosen to offer LNG connections to newly constructed housing developments in Lahore at prices much higher than natural gas.
