Starlink, the satellite internet service by Elon Musk, is making steady progress toward launching operations in Pakistan, with the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) confirming that the licensing process is moving ahead in phases. A No Objection Certificate (NOC) has already been issued, signaling a green light for the next steps.

According to inside sources at the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the next phase involves granting an official license to Starlink. The PTA estimates that Starlink will become fully operational in Pakistan within the next six months, bringing its Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite-powered internet services directly to Pakistani users.

As part of the licensing process, Starlink will pay a $640,000 fee to the PTA. The company has already submitted its license application, along with comprehensive technical and financial documentation, which is now under internal review by the PTA.

The final decision on the license issuance will be made by the PTA chairman and its three board members, with the license expected to be issued in the coming weeks.

Once approved, Starlink will be allowed to accept customer bookings in Pakistan and begin the installation of equipment nationwide. The company plans to set up two to three ground stations within the country to support its satellite internet infrastructure.

Starlink’s entry into the Pakistani market could be a game-changer for internet access, especially in remote and underserved areas that lack cable internet or mobile tower coverage. In terms of pricing, sources suggest that Starlink internet in Pakistan will be more affordable than in the US and other developed nations.

With global momentum and Pakistan’s digital landscape evolving, Starlink’s launch could revolutionize connectivity across the country.
