Despite adequate domestic supplies and new imports, sugar prices have kept rising throughout Pakistan.

The national retail price of sugar increased from Rs132 per kg in November 2024 to Rs189 per kg in October 2025, according to documents from the Ministry of National Food Security. During the same time period, the price in Islamabad went from Rs. 137 to Rs. 192 per kg.

The price increase differed throughout large cities. Peshawar experienced the biggest increase of Rs 72 per kg, while Lahore witnessed the lowest increase of Rs 44 per kg. The rise was Rs49 per kg in Sialkot, Rs52 in Faisalabad, Rs55 in Islamabad and Karachi, Rs56 in Khuzdar, Rs57 in Hyderabad, Rs58 in Quetta, and Rs64 in Sukkur.

According to the ministry’s data, market prices remained uncontrollable even with a sufficient supply of sugar and more imports. According to official sources, the commodity’s price increased by Rs. 50 to Rs. 72 per kilogram over the previous year.

Prices topped Rs. 200 per kg in a number of cities. The price spike persisted unchecked despite efforts to control the market.
