During the Supreme Court hearing on the case pertaining to reserved seats, a noteworthy development took place.
The 11-member constitutional bench was essentially dissolved when Justice Salahuddin Panhwar recused himself from the case.
Legal and constitutional objections about the distribution of reserved seats were being heard by the court.
It is presently anticipated that the bench will be reconfigured. An announcement regarding the case’s next steps will be made shortly.
At Friday’s Supreme Court hearing on the matter involving reserved seats, a significant development occurred. Justice Salahuddin Panhwar recused himself, and the 11-member constitutional bench that was considering the case was disbanded.
During the court proceedings, Justice Panhwar made his resignation known.
Senior attorney Hamid Khan objected yesterday to the inclusion of judges appointed after the 26th Constitutional Amendment, and he recused himself in response.
Justice Panhwar stated that there had been opposition to his appointment to the bench and admitted that he had previously been associated with Hamid Khan since 2010. “Your objection deeply hurts me,” Justice Panhwar remarked. “How the objection was raised has compelled me to step aside to uphold the dignity of the court.”
Attorneys Salman Akram Raja and Faisal Siddiqi also stated that they have complete faith in the bench, according to Justice Panhwar.
Members of the bench exited the courtroom during the proceedings. The participants were told to wait for ten minutes by Justice Aminuddin Khan.
It is now anticipated that the bench will be reconstituted and that the case will proceed in due time.
