Business leader and social activist Syed Sadat Hussain Shah has called on the government to provide tax relief to low-cost housing developers in the upcoming 2025 budget. He said that instead of increasing taxes, the government should introduce incentives that support affordable housing projects, making it easier for middle- and lower-income families to build their own homes.
While speaking to media representatives, Syed Sadat Hussain Shah emphasized that Pakistan is already facing a severe housing shortage. Millions of families are unable to afford a home, and rising construction costs have made the situation even more challenging. He stressed that increasing taxes on the real estate and construction sectors would slow down development and make housing further out of reach for ordinary citizens.
He suggested that the government consider reducing tax burdens on essential building materials, registration fees, and documentation charges. According to him, such relief would revive construction activity, generate employment, and encourage private developers to launch more affordable housing projects across the country.
Syed Sadat Hussain Shah added that the construction industry not only provides shelter but also drives economic growth by supporting dozens of connected industries, including cement, steel, tiles, transport, and labor. He said that easing tax pressure would help the government achieve its long-term goal of increasing homeownership and boosting economic activity.
He also highlighted the need for a transparent, investor-friendly environment to help local and overseas Pakistanis invest confidently in property development. He stated that stable policies and supportive reforms would lead to stronger public trust and long-term economic benefits.
Shah concluded by urging the government to prioritize the needs of low-income families in the 2025 budget and to create practical solutions that make housing affordable for all.
