In order to regain investor confidence and pave the way for future technologies like the 5G spectrum auction, cellular mobile operators (CMOs) operating in Pakistan have demanded immediate policy interventions from the caretaker government, including delinking spectrum price from the dollar, extending license payments over twenty years, suspending industry contributions to the Universal Service Fund (USF) and Ignite, and granting access to industrial electricity tariffs.
Dr. Umar Saif, the acting federal minister for information technology and telecommunications, met with a variety of parties, including the CEOs of telecom operators, to discuss reforms of the telecom sector and the schedule for the 5G spectrum auction.

According to the IT ministry, the talks with the CEOs of cellular businesses were held to inform the telecom companies about the market preparations for the 5G auction.
In accordance with the official statement, the government intends to hold an auction for 5G spectrum in the upcoming few months. According to Dr. Saif, the government is taking action to improve the nation’s communication services. According to the minister, bandwidth restrictions prevent consumers from receiving high-quality service, but 5G will improve the quality of telecom services available to them.
The Jazz CEO wrote on X that they had a fruitful meeting with the IT minister. The urgent concerns affecting Pakistan’s telecom sector must be addressed.

Ibrahim continued by highlighting certain long-overdue policy changes. These include giving the telecom sector its legitimate access to industrial power pricing, extending licensing payments over a twenty-year period, temporarily suspending industry contributions to USF and Ignite, and delinking spectrum costs from the U.S. dollar. He continued by saying that these initiatives are vitally required for the telecom sector to continue fueling the goal of a Digital Pakistan.
