Freezing temperatures have gripped high-altitude regions and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) as a strong cold wave continues to sweep across the country.

In Swat, including Mingora and the surrounding mountainous areas, the cold has sharply intensified. Night-time temperatures dropped to –1°C in Kalam Valley and –2°C in Malam Jabba, increasing difficulties for residents and tourists.

Severe cold has also taken hold in Mansehra, while Naran recorded one of the lowest temperatures of the season at –10°C. Waterfalls in Naran and nearby areas have frozen solid, creating striking winter scenes.

District authorities have suspended all traffic in Naran due to extreme cold and dense fog. Travel beyond Paldaran toward Kaghan has been strictly prohibited for safety reasons.

In Azad Kashmir, dry and biting cold continues to worsen conditions in the upper regions. Wadi Neelum reported temperatures as low as –6°C, adding to the challenges faced by residents of remote valleys.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain and snowfall are expected in Swat and nearby high-altitude areas next week, which may further drop temperatures and impact mobility.
