Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has praised fast bowler Mohammed Siraj for his outstanding performances in the recently concluded five-Test series against England, saying the right-arm pacer “doesn’t get the credit he deserves” despite being a consistent match-winner. Siraj emerged as the top wicket-taker of the series, claiming 23 wickets in nine innings at an average of 32.43—the highest across both teams in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The 30-year-old from Hyderabad also outperformed India’s lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah and was the only fast bowler to feature in all five Tests, showcasing both his durability and determination.

Tendulkar, speaking in a recent interview, called Siraj’s approach “unbelievable” and commended his intensity and fearless attitude, saying, “For a fast bowler to be constantly in your face like that—no batsman will like it. He has that spring in his legs and the courage to deliver when it matters the most.” Siraj’s most notable performance came in the second innings of the fifth Test, where he took a sensational five-wicket haul to help India seal a dramatic six-run win—their narrowest Test victory in history. His efforts earned him the Player of the Match award, while captain Shubman Gill was named Player of the Series.

Tendulkar further highlighted Siraj’s stamina and commitment, noting, “To bowl at 90mph (145kph) on the final day of a five-match series, after delivering more than 1000 balls, shows his courage and big heart. Whenever the team needs that knockout punch, Siraj has delivered. He played a key role throughout the series.” Often overshadowed by big names like Bumrah and spinners such as Ashwin, Siraj has quietly built a reputation as a dependable performer in high-pressure situations. His ability to extract bounce, generate movement, and sustain aggression has made him a vital part of India’s bowling attack.

Since his Test debut in 2020, Siraj has progressed from a supporting bowler to a key figure in India’s pace unit, especially in the absence or rotation of senior players. His hunger and passion are evident in his energetic celebrations and relentless spells. In the final tally of wickets for the series, Siraj led with 23, followed by Bumrah with 19, Mark Wood with 14, and James Anderson with 11. Tendulkar’s public endorsement adds weight to Siraj’s growing stature, and as India looks ahead to major challenges—like the upcoming tour of Australia—his form and fitness will be crucial. If he continues to perform with the same intensity, Siraj is well on his way to being recognized among the world’s elite fast bowlers.
