In celebration of Ashura, the government has set aside July 5 and 6 (Saturday and Sunday) as public holidays, while July 9 and 10 are Muharram-ul-Haram.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave his approval to the decision to designate holidays, the Cabinet Division said in a statement.
All government offices that operate on both five-day and six-day workweeks will respect the national public holidays.
