Strengths
SIDE is a program that does two things: it suggests substitute sources and confirms that primary sources are accurate. It’s important to remember, though, that this AI works under the assumption that a particular Wikipedia entry is true. As such, although it is able to evaluate the reliability of a source, it is unable to independently confirm the assertions made in an entry.

People preferred the AI-recommended citations over the original sources in 70% of the cases, according to a study. Notably, the researchers found that SIDE recommended a source that was already the most popular reference on Wikipedia in nearly half of the cases.
Additionally, SIDE showed its proactive approach in 21 percent of cases by suggesting a reference that human annotators had already determined to be appropriate.
Weaknesses
While the AI seems to provide useful assistance in verifying claims on Wikipedia, the researchers admit that other programs might be able to outperform their current design in terms of speed and quality.
It’s critical to understand that SIDE, which focuses mostly on web page references, has certain limitations. As a matter of fact, Wikipedia uses a wide range of sources, including books, scholarly articles, and multimedia files like pictures and videos. Beyond technical limitations, the basic idea behind Wikipedia is that anyone can add references to a topic, which could introduce bias based on the topic’s nature.
It’s common knowledge that any software, especially artificial intelligence (AI) systems that depend on training, has the potential to exhibit the prejudices of the people who created it. It’s possible that the data used to evaluate and train SIDE’s models has limitations in this area.
