Meta is rolling out a new feature on Threads that could be a game-changer for users who want to share longer thoughts without splitting them into multiple posts. The company confirmed on Thursday that it’s testing a tool called “text attachment,” which lets users add large blocks of text to a single post.
Instead of turning to workarounds like screenshots from the Notes app, users can now write out extended content—like blog-style commentary, news analysis, or book excerpts—and attach it as a scrollable text box right inside a post.
The feature was first spotted by app researcher Radu Oncescu, who shared a screenshot showing how it looks on iOS. The attached text appears as a grey box within a post. When tapped, it opens into a full, scrollable view.
It’s similar to the “Articles” feature on X (formerly Twitter), which allows users to post long-form content—but only if they’re Premium subscribers. On Threads, the feature is currently free and available to everyone during testing, although that could change down the line.
Right now, Threads’ version only supports text. But Meta says it may add support for images and video later.
This new tool could help Threads appeal to writers, creators, and bloggers who’ve been using platforms like Substack or Medium—or those simply looking for a better way to post long updates without breaking them into threads.
It’s the latest in a string of updates to Threads over the past year, including the addition of DMs, AI tools, custom feeds, and fediverse integration.
Threads now boasts over 400 million monthly active users. X still leads the pack with over 600 million, according to previous statements from former CEO Linda Yaccarino.
