To Broaden Tax Base, FBR Shares 7.2ML Citizens’ Detail with NADRA
Islamabad: According to published reports, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has provided the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) with the personal information of 7.2 million residents for verification purposes. The board has obtained information from several sources, including banks, excise and taxation agencies, and electricity companies.

The FBR has settled on a strategy to increase the tax base that will be implemented in January 2022, according to specifics. Under this concept, the documentation drive will commence in January with a massive media campaign urging the general population to join the tax net. NADRA has set 15 million individuals from its database to be compared with a specific criterion using artificial intelligence to identify non-filers.

According to insiders, the final list of possible taxpayers will be released before the end of the month. The list contains the names of persons who were not included on the FBR tax roll. The final list will be released on the FBR website so that the public can also view it. Additionally, the FBR app will be upgraded so that citizens may access their information.
In addition, the public will be given a specific amount of time to voluntarily file their tax returns, after which legal action will be taken. FBR Chairman Ashfaq Ahmed claimed that a new mechanism for tax collection from potential taxpayers was being developed. He stated that income tax commissioners worked to incorporate untaxed industries within the tax base.
